Muhakat – Inspiring Young Minds
The Muhakat program, launched in 2012, is an Emiratization initiative aimed at providing high school and university students with practical exposure to the healthcare sector. The program allows students to explore various roles in healthcare facilities, such as pharmacy, laboratory services, and emergency care.
Initially attracting around 200 students, Muhakat now engages nearly 500 Emirati students annually from approximately 30 schools. It offers students from grade nine through university the opportunity to gain real-world healthcare experience and make informed career choices.

SEHA Medical Internship Program
As the largest healthcare organization in Abu Dhabi, SEHA actively supports the professional training and development of both UAE nationals and non-nationals, depending on availability. A critical component of this training is the Medical Internship Program, which provides a one-year supervised clinical training experience across multiple medical specialties.
This program consolidates knowledge acquired during medical education through immersive clinical practice in hospital and outpatient settings. Rotations are designed with clear learning objectives to enhance skills and prepare interns for safe and effective independent practice as general practitioners.
Guiding Principles for Internships:
- Training is a supervised learning experience.
- Patient care remains central to the educational process.
- Proper education respects the dignity of patients and trainees, optimizing both patient outcomes and the learning experience.
- Interns actively participate in healthcare delivery under delegated and graded responsibility, ensuring they acquire the skills to examine, diagnose, manage, and treat patients effectively.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must meet Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD) requirements.
- UAE nationals graduating from approved UAE medical schools or from institutions listed in the Avicenna database (formerly WHO Directory of Medical Schools).
- Expatriate graduates from approved UAE medical schools, subject to available placements. A small program fee applies for expatriate applicants.
