NMC Healthcare UAE : Abu Dhabi: NMC Healthcare (Arabic: مستشفى المركز الطبي الجديد) is one of the largest and most established private healthcare networks in the United Arab Emirates, with a legacy spanning nearly five decades. Founded in 1974 by entrepreneur B. R. Shetty, the organisation grew from a single clinic into a multinational healthcare and medical distribution group, once operating in 19 countries and managing more than 200 healthcare facilities worldwide.
At its peak, NMC Health was recognised as the largest private healthcare provider in the UAE, serving millions of patients annually and employing thousands of healthcare professionals across hospitals, specialty clinics, diagnostic centres, fertility units, long-term care facilities, and pharmacies.
Extensive Healthcare Network in the UAE
NMC Healthcare currently operates an extensive domestic network comprising around 70 medical facilities across the UAE. This includes JCI-accredited multi-specialty hospitals in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Al Ain, alongside medical centres, community clinics, day surgery centres, home healthcare services, and long-term care facilities.

In addition to patient care, its distribution arm, NMC Trading, played a key role in the wholesale distribution of pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and healthcare supplies, representing major global brands such as Pfizer, Siemens, Samsung, Sanofi, Nestlé, and Henkel.
Growth, Challenges and Regulatory Action
From the mid-1990s onwards, NMC expanded rapidly within the UAE and internationally, achieving several milestones, including JCIA accreditation for its hospitals and a London Stock Exchange listing in 2012.
